Lakey of Ava FFA Chapter named Missouri State FFA Vice President

COLUMBIA Mo., April 19, 2024 – During the 96th Missouri FFA Convention, Matthew Lakey was named a 2024-2025 State FFA Vice President. Lakey is a member of the Ava FFA Chapter. His parents are Brent and Jennifer Lakey. His advisors are John Branstetter and Brent Lakey. 

Lakey’s supervised agriculture experience consists of a commercial Black Angus beef cattle herd. He raises and sells the calves produced. He also works placement for his family’s commercial beef cattle operation. He competed in the Missouri Cattle Industry Public Speaking Contest and earned third place. He also competed in the Missouri Farm Bureau Speaking Contest and received first place in the state. He also participated in the Missouri State Dairy Cattle and Livestock Evaluation contest.

During Lakey’s FFA career, he has served as Chapter President, 1st Vice President, Secretary, and 1st Vice President of the Area XII FFA Association.

Outside of FFA, Lakey is heavily involved in church, helping with various activities including Vacation Bible School and the sound booth. Lakey is also on the Football and Baseball teams, recognized as the Second Team All-State Offensive Lineman by the Missouri Football Coaches Association and South-Central Conference Lineman of the Year. Additionally, he is in the Missouri Junior Cattlemen’s Association and Missouri Douglas County Extension where he is a student representative.

After High School graduation, Lakey plans to attend Missouri State University-Springfeild, where he will study Agriculture Education. Lakey says he wants to share his story of agriculture with every student who steps into his classroom.

The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
