COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2026 – Selby Hulse of Hannibal won the Missouri FFA Diversified Crop Production – Placement Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.

Hulse, a senior at Monroe City R-1 High School, is the son of Ryan and Leticia Hulse. He is a member of the Monroe City FFA Chapter. His advisors are Keriann Brandt and Chad Cook.

Hulse’s supervised agricultural experience program consists of placement at Hulse Family Farm, a diversified operation producing 900 acres of corn, 900 acres of soybeans and 200 acres of wheat annually. His responsibilities include cultivating fields, planting, spraying herbicides and insecticides and harvesting. He has learned to operate tractors, combines, grain carts and spray drones. Additionally, Hulse is active in the farm’s forage operation, which includes chopping rye silage and baling fescue hay, straw and cornstalks. As his role has progressed, he has taken on management decisions such as selecting seed varieties based on yield data, coordinating with dealers for parts and supplies and managing other farm employees.

As an FFA member, Hulse has competed in Career Development Events (CDEs) for Nursery & Landscape and Agricultural Sales.

In addition to FFA, Hulse is a member of the Missouri Angus Association, American Angus Association and the Missouri Club Calf Association. He is also an active member of Big Creek Presbyterian Church and Stone 4-H.

After graduating high school, Hulse plans to attend Iowa State University to study agricultural systems technologies with a minor in plant science. He intends to return to his family farm to help expand the operation by renting more land and eventually purchasing his own farm.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or researchers while gaining real-world, hands-on experience in agriculture. Diversified Crop Production is one of 45 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council sponsors this award.

The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
