Carter wins Diversified Crop Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2026 – Lane Carter of Martinsburg won the Diversified Crop Production- Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.
Carter, a senior at Community R-VI High School, is the son of Leslie Carter and the late Alan Carter. He is a member of the Audrain Co. R-VI FFA chapter. His advisor is Stacy French.
Carter’s supervised agricultural experience program consists of grain, oil, and forage crop production. His responsibilities include renting farmland, selecting seed varieties, managing soil fertility and performing tillage and planting. He manages a rotating operation of corn and soybeans, which included 86 total acres in 2024, and operates a custom square baling business for local farmers.
As an FFA member, Carter has participated in several career development events including Livestock Judging, Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems, and Agri-Science Fair.
In addition to FFA, Carter is a member of the Merry Martins 4-H Club, St. Joseph Youth Group, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also plays on the Community R-VI varsity baseball team and is a certified graduate of the Continental Auctioneer School.
Carter plans to continue expanding his row crop and hay operations while growing his own auctioneering business. He intends to remain involved in production agriculture as a lifelong career.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or researchers while gaining real-world, hands-on experience in agriculture. Diversified Crop Production – Entrepreneurship is one of 45 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Crop Improvement Association sponsors this award.
The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
