COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2026 – Quin Staten of Tarkio won the Missouri FFA Turf and Landscape Maintenance Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.

Staten, a senior at Tarkio R-I High School, is the son of Mark and Lori Staten. He is a member of the Tarkio FFA Chapter. His advisor is Dustin Lambertsen.

For his supervised agricultural experience program, Staten owns and operates a lawn care and landscaping business, Q and M Mowing, providing maintenance services to approximately 60 clients in his community. He manages multiple employees and uses a fleet of professional-grade equipment to deliver high-quality results. With a strategic approach to scheduling, turf management, and equipment maintenance, he maximizes efficiency while maintaining strong turf health and minimizing downtime.

As an FFA member, Staten has participated in multiple career development events. He has also been involved in numerous chapter activities and leadership opportunities. Outside of FFA, Staten has been active in cross country, track and field, band and theater.

After graduating, Staten plans to pursue a degree in commercial turf and grounds management while continuing to expand his lawn care and landscaping business.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Turf and Landscape Maintenance is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Pro Lawns, Inc. sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
