COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Jake Piper of Pleasant Hill, Illinois, won the Missouri FFA Wildlife Production and Management Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Piper, a sophomore at Bowling Green High School, is the son of Jeremy and Amanda Piper. He is a member of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter. His advisors are Jason Davis, Matt Graves and Brett Waddell.
Piper’s supervised agricultural experience involves trapping predatory animals in the winter for the conservation of other species. He harvests the pelts and sells them to a fur buyer.
As an FFA member, Piper has served as chapter secretary and president. Outside of FFA, Piper is a 4-H member, serves as an usher at his church, and is an NRCS Earth Team volunteer.
After graduating high school, Piper’s plans include attending a four-year university to study conservation.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Wildlife production and management is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Department of Conservation sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
