COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2026 – Emelia Flores of Bethel won the Missouri FFA Specialty Crop Production Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.

Flores, a junior at North Shelby High School, is the daughter of Floyd Kennison and Jessica Benner. Her advisors are Harold Eckler, Jenny Bradley and Tim Davis.

Flores’ supervised agricultural experience involves the ownership and management of Autumn Artisan Gourd Company, where she produces and markets ornamental gourds for seasonal fall décor. She oversees all aspects of production including soil preparation, planting, vine management, harvest timing and post-harvest handling to ensure high-quality products. Flores also markets her gourds through social media and a roadside stand.

As an FFA member, Flores has been actively involved in her chapter and has participated in leadership and career development events. She is also involved in school and community activities including National Honor Society, student council, athletics and band.

After graduation, Flores plans to continue expanding her knowledge of plant production and marketing while remaining involved in agriculture. She hopes to grow her specialty crop operation and eventually operate a farm stand.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Specialty Crop Production is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Stoddard County Seed and Feed sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
