Schellenberger wins Outdoor Recreation Proficiency

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2026 – Samuel Schellenberger of Canton won the Missouri FFA Outdoor Recreation Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.
Schellenberger, a senior at Canton R-V, is the son of Steven and Lauren Schellenberger. He is a member of the Canton FFA Chapter. His advisor is Lezlie Durst.
Schellenberger’s supervised agricultural experience involves maintenance and enhancement of the habitat at The Wakonda State Park. Some of his responsibilities include spraying to manage and control invasive plants and interacting with visitors of the park. Throughout his work, he has gained intensive knowledge of taxonomic systems and operating equipment.
Schellenberger is also a member of the National Honor Society and Ducks Unlimited.
After graduating high school, Schellenberger’s plans include going to Culver-Stockton College to study business. He aspires to have an occupation in the hunting industry.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Outdoor Recreation is one of 45 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Department of Conservation sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
