COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Presley Schluss of Jonesburg won the Missouri FFA Equine Science Placement Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Schluss, a senior from Montgomery Co R-II High School, is the daughter of Alan and Jocelyn Schluss. She is a member of the Montgomery Co R-II FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Amanda Sullivan and Mary Leykamp.
Schluss’s supervised agricultural experience program involves working at SQH Farms. Her responsibilities include instructing lessons, cleaning stalls, grooming, and breaking horses.
As an FFA member, Schluss has served as an area and chapter officer. In addition, she has been a Missouri State Fair exhibitor and has competed in the state Horse Judging Career Development Event.
After graduating high school, Schluss’ plans to study agricultural communications.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Equine Science in Placement is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. William Woods University sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
