COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Alexis Mullins of St. James won the Missouri FFA Equine Science Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention. 

Mullins, a senior from St. James R-1 High School, is the daughter of Tiffany Sydow. She is a member of the St. James R-1 FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Heather Bouse and Trish Watson.

Mullins’ supervised agricultural experience program involves buying and raising horses and providing horse-riding lessons. Her responsibilities include instructing lessons to children, cleaning stalls, grooming, and breaking horses. 

As an FFA member, Mullins has served as an area and chapter officer. In addition, she has competed in career development events, state legislative day, and the state public speaking institute.  In addition to FFA, Mullins is a member of her high-school basketball and track team.

After graduating high school, Mullins’ plans to study elementary education at William Woods University . She hopes to also build and open her own stable and expand into other training services.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Equine Science in Entrepreneurship is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. William Woods University sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
