COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 — The Silex FFA Chapter won the FFA agricultural issues forum leadership development event at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.

Silex team members are Hayley Gruenewald, James Cockrell, Claire Kinion, Braden Havilk and Mckenna Claborn. Silex FFA advisors are Sean O’Brien and Elizabeth Kientzy.

Teams in the agricultural issues forum LDE create a presentation focused on an important agricultural issue faced by their community. Team members give their presentation at least five times to community organizations before competing in the event.

Sponsored by the Northwest Missouri State University Agriculture Department, this event is one of many ways the FFA prepares student members for career success.

LDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
