Ashland FFA floriculture team wins state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2026 – The Ashland FFA Chapter won the floriculture career development event at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 60 teams in the competition.
The team members include Braxton Winfrey, Grae Helland, Blake Cossey and Gannon Seyer. Winfrey placed first, Helland placed second, Cossey placed seventh and Seyer placed 11th out of 230 participants. The Ashland FFA advisors are MacKenzie Black and Rebekah Hammett.
Students were asked to identify plants and were faced with decisions involving day-to-day problems that occur in the floral industry. Plant care and diagnosis, floral arranging and sales and product knowledge were tested in the event.
Sponsored by Hummert International, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
