McDonald County FFA livestock team wins state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17th, 2026 – The McDonald County FFA Chapter won the livestock evaluation career development event at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 58 teams in the competition. 

The team members are Chloe Obrien, Macy Reece, Thomas Creason, and Ally Welch. Obrien placed 1st, Reece placed 11th, Creason placed 12th and Welch placed 29th out of 217 participants. The McDonald County FFA advisors are Jimmy Hinson, Seth Horn and Emily Hutton.

Participants in the contest evaluate beef, sheep and swine using performance records and physical appraisals. The team members present oral reasons on three of six classes they judged to defend and explain the placing of the class.

Sponsored by Star Labs, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.
