COLUMBIA, Mo., April 16, 2026 – Henry Butterfield of Brunswick won the Missouri FFA Vegetable Production Proficiency Award at the 98th Missouri FFA Convention.

Butterfield, a junior at Brunswick R-II High School, is the son of Greg and Kristen Butterfield. He is a member of the Brunswick FFA Chapter. His advisor is Kendra Krapfl.

Butterfield’s supervised agricultural experience involves his work at King Hill Farms, a family-owned retail and wholesale vegetable operation. He assists in the production of a wide variety of crops including pumpkins, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes, zucchini and cucumbers. His responsibilities include seed selection, greenhouse plant production, pest and disease management, harvesting and stocking a roadside stand, as well as loading produce for wholesale customers.

Through his SAE, Butterfield has taken on increasing responsibility, now serving as a crew leader where he manages workers, coordinates schedules and assists in decision-making for crop rotation and production practices. He has accumulated over 550 hours of experience and earned more than $6,000 while helping maintain the long-standing success of his family’s farm.

As an FFA member, Butterfield has participated in various career development events and attended statewide FFA events. He has also exhibited at the Missouri State Fair.  Outside of FFA, he is involved in basketball, baseball and track, as well as his local church and National Honor Society.

After graduating high school, Butterfield plans to attend State Technical College of Missouri to pursue a degree in electrical technology while still being able to oversee the vegetable production at King Hill Farms.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Vegetable Production is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Missouri Grown sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 27,000 members representing 369 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,042,245 members representing 9,407 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
