COLUMBIA, Mo., April 23, 2025 – Jake Piper of Bowling Green won the Missouri FFA Outdoor Recreation Proficiency Award at the 97th Missouri FFA Convention.

Piper, a junior at Bowling Green R-I High School, the son of Jeremy and Amanda Piper. He is a member of the Bowling Green R-I High School FFA Chapter. His advisors are Jason Davis, Matt Graves and Ryan Talkington.

Piper’s supervised agricultural experience program involves maintenance and upkeep at Helms Farms and recreational grounds. Some of his responsibilities include planting food plots to painting gates and general grounds maintenance.

Throughout his FFA career Piper has competed in agronomy to further his plant identification skills while working. He has also competed at trap meets and attended leadership conferences.

After graduating high school, Piper’s plans include going to a 4-year university. He aspires to have an occupation in the conservation or plant side of agriculture.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Outdoor Recreation is one of 45 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Department of Conservation sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 26,900 members representing 365 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,027,273 members representing 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
