Harms wins Nursery Operations Proficiency Award

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 24, 2025 – Abigail Harms of Westboro won the Missouri FFA Nursery Operations Proficiency Award at the 97th Missouri FFA Convention.
Harms, a senior at Tarkio R-I High School, is the daughter of Ryan and Lee Harms. She is a member of the Tarkio FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Dustin Lambertsen.
Harms supervised agriculture experience involves working in her family-owned greenhouse business, where she started with basic tasks like watering, planting, and preparing customer orders. Despite family ownership, she earned her position through hard work and growth. Over time, her responsibilities expanded to include selecting plant combinations, managing school orders, assisting with deliveries, leading employees, and helping customers with plant care and checkout.
Harms has competed in FFA Knowledge, Floriculture and Dairy Foods CDE events. Outside of FFA she is a member of the Tarkio Band and National Honor Society.
After graduating high school, Harms plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia. She plans to major in agriculture education and plant science.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Nursery Operations is one of 45 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Green Industry Alliance sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,900 members representing 365 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,027,273 members representing 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
