Savannah FFA meats team wins state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 23, 2025 – The Savannah FFA Chapter won the meat evaluation career development event at the 97th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition.

The team members are Addison Neiderhouse, Kaylea Farrell, Mackenzie Schmutzler, and Reagan Rodgers. Neiderhouse 2nd, Farrell 6th, Schmutzler 8th, Rodgers 71st. The Savannah FFA advisors are Jessica Aeschliman, Jeff Baumann, and Mikaila Livingston.

Participants in the event are required to complete comprehensive exams in meat selection, storage, cooking, nutrition and safety. They also are asked to perform activities involving mathematical formulas for making cost-efficient meat products. Competitors identify cuts of meat by species, retail trade name and prime cut identification.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, CDEs prepare student members for career success, engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 26,900 members representing 365 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,027,273 members representing 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
