Palmyra FFA floriculture team wins state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 24, 2025 – The Palmyra FFA Chapter won the floriculture career development event at the 95th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 60 teams in the competition.
The team members include Marissa Gottman, Joseph Mahsman, Wesley Summers, and Ashton Lovegreen. Gottman placed 1st, Mahsman placed 4th, Summers placed 9th and Lovegreen placed 52st out of 228 participants. The Palmyra FFA advisors are Luke Mahsman and Amanda Haeberlin.
Students were asked to identify plants and were faced with decisions involving day-to-day problems that occur in the floral industry. Plant care and diagnosis, floral arranging and sales and product knowledge were tested in the event.
Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.
The Missouri FFA has 26,900 members representing 365 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,027,273 members representing 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
