Ashland FFA entomology team wins state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 25, 2025 – The Ashland FFA Chapter won the entomology career development event at the 97th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition.

The team members are Gannon Seyer, Grae Helland ,Blake Cossey, and Moravia Statterfield. Seyer placed third, Helland placed 16th, Cossey placed 19th, and Moravia placed 24th out of the 184 participants. The Ashland FFA advisors are Jeff Suthoff, Rebekah Hammett, and Emily Strope.

Entomology teams take a written exam on pesticide application and safety regulations as well as identify species of insects.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 26,900 members representing 365 chapters. The national organization has more than 1,027,273 members representing 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
