Wilburn of the Van-Far FFA Chapter named State FFA Vice President

COLUMBIA Mo., April 19, 2024 – During the 96th Missouri FFA Convention, Carmen Wilburn was named a 2024-2025 State FFA Vice President. Wilburn is a member of the Van-Far FFA Chapter. Her parents are Tracy and Jay Wilburn. Her advisors are Ashlee Crader and Ryan Talkington.
Wilburn’s supervised agricultural experience program consists of working on her family’s swine production farm. In which, she fills out paperwork, medicates, checks, and loads the pigs. In addition, she also helps her family grow crops as an entrepreneurship Supervised Agricultural Experience where she grows and harvests corn. She placed first in Area V for Swine Production Proficiency. In the past, Wilburn has also cured meats and held a placement job for an insurance company.
During her FFA career, Wilburn served as the Chapter Reporter, 1st Vice President and is currently serving as the Chapter President for the Van-Far FFA chapter. She also is currently serving as the Area V treasurer.
Wilburn has competed in the FFA Knowledge Contest and advanced to state in both Entomology and Floriculture. She has also competed in the State Swine Facility Management contest and placed second as a team. Wilburn has also competed in Teach Ag and Young Farmers and Farm Wives fall speaking contests. She was alternate to state with her Young Farmers and Farm Wives speech and in Teach Ag she placed third in the state competition. Wilburn was also selected to attend the Missouri Helping Youth Prepare for Excellence (HYPE) Academy.
In addition to the FFA, Wilburn is also elected the president of National Honors Society, Vice President of the student council, and Senior Class Secretary. Wilburn also participates in A+, basketball, and softball. She was selected to attend Rotary’s RYLA academy and is the 2023-2024 Daughters of the American Revolution good citizen.
After graduating Wilburn plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia to pursue a degree in Agriculture Education-Teacher Certification. After graduation she plans to teach agriculture to high school students and obtain a masters degree.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
