Wilburn is state winner in swine production placement proficiency award area

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 19, 2024 – Carmen Wilburn of Laddonia won the Missouri FFA Swine Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Wilburn, a senior at Van-Far R-I High School, is the daughter of Jay and Tracy Wilburn. She is a member of the Van-Far FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Ashlee Crader and Ryan Talkington.
Wilburn’s supervised agricultural experience program involves employment at her family’s hog confinement operation. Her responsibilities include sorting hogs, maintaining herd health, and cleaning barns.
As an FFA member, Wilburn has competed in the floriculture career development event on the state level and attended Public Speaking Academy. In addition to FFA, Wilburn is a member of the varsity softball and basketball teams.
After graduating high school, Wilburn’s plans include studying agriculture education at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Swine Production Placement is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Missouri Pork Association sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
