Brotherton is state winner in swine production entrepreneurship proficiency award area

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Jaden Brotherton of Willow Springs won the Missouri FFA Swine Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Brotherton, a senior at West Plains High School, is the son of Donald and Rachel Brotherton. He is a member of the West Plains FFA Chapter. His advisors are Rachel Brotherton, Jay Hale, and Tonya Jedlicka.
Brotherton’s supervised agricultural experience program involves breeding pigs to sell in a production sale and to show at the local, state, and national levels. His responsibilities include making breeding selections, maintaining animal health, and executing his sale.
Brotherton has exhibited livestock nationally and at the Missouri State Fair. In addition to FFA, Davies is a member of the Missouri Swine Association Junior Board and Team Purebred.
After graduating high school, Brotherton’s plans include judging livestock at Hutchison Community College and transferring to Texas Tech University to complete his bachelor’s degree.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Swine Production Entrepreneurship is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Missouri Pork Association sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
