COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Ava Williams of Leonard won the Missouri FFA Specialty Crop Production Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Williams, a senior at North Shelby High School, is the daughter of Donny and Jaime Willaims. She is a member of the North Shelby FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Jenny Bradley, Tim Davis, and Harold Eckler.
Williams’ supervised agricultural experience program involves owning and operating Mums the Word, a seedling-to-full-plant chrysanthemum business. Her responsibilities include planting, maintaining, and selling the mums.
As an FFA member, Williams has competed in the state Agriscience Fair and served as chapter president. In addition to FFA, Williams serves as president of the National Honor Society and is vice president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
After graduating high school, Williams’ plans include studying agricultural policy and continuing her education in law school.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Specialty Crop Production is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Stoddard County Seed and Feed sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
