COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Sierra Bryson of Madison won the Missouri FFA Specialty Animal Production Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Bryson, a senior at Madison High School, is the daughter of Jeffery Bryson and Robyn Purdy. She is a member of the Madison FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Katie Haverkamp.
Bryson’s supervised agricultural experience program involves raising catfish to sell as live fish or to process as filets. Her responsibilities include feeding the fish, maintaining equipment, and filleting fish.
As an FFA member, Bryson has attended Public Speaking Academy and exhibited at the Missouri State Fair. In addition to FFA, Bryson serves as president of the Madison 4-H Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.
After graduating high school, Bryson’s plans include studying education at Moberly Area Community College.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Specialty Animal Production is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. Stoddard County Seed and Feed sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
