COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Andi Belt of Leonard won the Missouri FFA Sheep Production Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention.
Belt, a senior at North Shelby High School, is the daughter of Travis and Jessi Belt. She is a member of the North Shelby FFA Chapter. Her advisors are Jenny Bradley, Tim Davis, and Harold Eckler.
Belt’s supervised agricultural experience program involves raising, selling, and exhibiting purebred Southdown sheep. Her responsibilities include making breeding selections, selling retail lamb cuts to consumers, and running a business social media page.
As an FFA member, Belt has competed nationally in the Parliamentary Procedure career development event and exhibited at the North American International Livestock Exhibition. In addition to FFA, Belt is a member of the Missouri Southdown Association and the Missouri Sheep Producers.
After graduating high school, Belt’s plans include studying agriculture education at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Sheep Production is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Sheep Merchandising Council sponsored this award.
The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
