COLUMBIA, Mo., April 17, 2024 – Jackson Fruits of Union won the Missouri FFA Landscape Management Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention. 

Fruits, a senior at Union High School, is the son of Thad and Crystal Fruits. He is a member of the Union FFA Chapter. His advisors are Danielle Blair and Josh Roehrs.

Fruits’ supervised agricultural experience program involves owning and operating his lawn care service and employment at Goddard Grass Grooming. His responsibilities include completing landscaping and hardscaping projects and providing weekly mowing services.

As an FFA member, Fruits has competed in career development events on the state level and participated in the National FFA Convention Courtesy Corps. In addition to FFA, Fruits is a member of Team Henges trap-shooting team and volunteers with the Salvation Army..

After graduating high school, Fruits plans to attend a local community college and earn a degree in HVAC.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Landscape Management is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. The Missouri Green Industry Alliance sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
