COLUMBIA, Mo., April 18, 2024 – Abigail Burns of Gallatin won the Missouri FFA Agriscience Research Integrated Systems Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention. 

Burns, a senior at Gallatin R-V High School, is the daughter of Brant and Tara Burns. She is a member of the Gallatin FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Brant Burns.

Burns’ supervised agricultural experience program involves researching germination rates of oak acorns used in oak tree regeneration efforts. Her responsibilities include performing a literature review, designing and executing the project, and recording data.

As an FFA member, Burns has participated in the National Agriscience Fair and earned multiple state agriscience fair and proficiency awards. In addition to FFA, Burns is a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America.

After graduating high school, Burns plans to study plant and environmental research at the University of Missouri-Columbia. 

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Agriscience Research Integrated Systems is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. FMC Corporation sponsored this award.

The Missouri FFA has 26,830 members representing 362 chapters. The national organization has more than 945,000 members representing 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
