Koelling of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter named Area 5 Star Farmer

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 22, 2022 -The Missouri FFA Association recognized Alexis Koelling of the Bowling Green FFA Chapter as the Area 5 Star Farmer. Her parents are Brock and Michele Meyer of Bowling Green. Her advisors are Jason Davis, Matt Graves and Brett Waddell.

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 5 includes 20 chapters in the Northeast District.

MFA, Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Farmer Award.

Koelling’s SAE consists of beef production placement. She began breeding Angus cattle to produce bulls for her family’s bull production sales. She later raised Angus cattle while competing in state and national Angus shows, many of which she placed at, including Denver, Louisville, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Reno and Baltimore. Koelling is also involved in her family’s operations, Meyer Cattle Company and Meyer Farms.

Koelling currently serves as area reporter and chapter vice president. She placed fourth in the Missouri State FFA Division II prepared public speaking leadership development event. She has also competed in the FFA creed speaking leadership development event, and the dairy cattle evaluation and soils career development events at the state level. She attended Helping Youth Maximize their Agricultural eXperience Academy. 

In addition to FFA, Koelling is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Spanish Club, the Bowling Green Internship Program and the Agricultural Occupational Experience Program. Koelling is also a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the American Angus Association.

After graduating high school, Koelling’s plans include attending Black Hawk Community College- Galva, Illinois, to study agribusiness management and judge livestock. She then plans to transfer to Oklahoma State University- Stillwater, Oklahoma, to judge livestock and finish studying agribusiness management. She hopes to have a career selling hay equipment. 

The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
