COLUMBIA Mo., April 22, 2022 -The Missouri FFA Association recognized Hannah Evans of the Ava FFA Chapter as the Area 12 Star Farmer at the 94th Missouri FFA Convention. Her parents are Kelly and Mark Evans of Squires. Her advisors are John Branstetter and Brent Lakey.

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 12 includes 23 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA, Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.

Evan’s supervised agricultural experience consists of beef production placement. She works on her family’s Hereford cattle ranch and is responsible for managing their nutrition, helping with vaccinations, and providing for their health needs. She also ensures that they are top quality to compete at local fairs and livestock shows. After the summer show season, Evans puts the heifers back into production at her ranch to raise more calves. She also sells the bulls to anyone who wants to improve their genetics and diversify their herd. She hopes to keep those genetics in their herd and continue farming in the Ozarks.

Evans has served as chapter vice president and secretary. She participated in dairy cattle evaluation, livestock evaluation, grassland evaluation and agronomy career development events.

In addition to FFA, Evans is a member of National Honor Society, art club, cross country and track team.

After graduating high school, Evan’s plans include studying English education at College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout. She hopes to continue raising Hereford cattle, advocating for the beef industry and becoming a high school English teacher.

The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
