Cope of New Madrid County Central FFA Chapter named Area 16 Star Farmer

COLUMBIA, Mo.,April 22, 2022 -The Missouri FFA Association recognized Clay Cope of the New Madrid County Central FFA Chapter as the Area 16 Star Farmer at the 94th Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Jason and Jenny Cope of New Madrid. His advisor is Ethan Hunziker. 


Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 16 includes 21 chapters in the Southeast District. 


MFA, Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.


Cope’s supervised agricultural experience includes diversified crop production placement and production entrepreneurship. He rents 50 acres from his family to raise, market and sell soybeans. Cope also helps with the family’s diversified crop operation consisting of corn, soybeans and cotton.


Cope currently serves as chapter vice president and previously served as chapter parliamentarian. 


In addition to FFA, Cope is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and New Madrid County Central BETA Club. He participates in archery and baseball. Cope also participates in travel baseball during the summer.


Cope plans to run for chapter president this upcoming year. 

The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
