COLUMBIA, Mo., April 22, 2022 — The Missouri FFA Association recognized Owen Paul Howard of the Halfway FFA Chapter as the Area 10 Star in Agribusiness at the 94th Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Ryan and Linda Howard of Halfway. His advisor is Jeff Voris.

Area Stars in Agribusiness are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 10 includes 23 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agribusiness awards as well as the State Star in Agribusiness Award.

Howard’s supervised agricultural experience consists of diversified crop production entrepreneurship where he owns and operates a custom combining business. The business began in 2014 when he purchased a K2 Gleaner. Howard now harvests fescue seed and wheat for local farmers and maintains all necessary equipment. Since beginning the custom combining operation, he has created a custom fishing lure business where he hand-makes soft plastic fishing baits. To produce the lures, he heats up plastic until it becomes liquid to make a custom bait. Both businesses have allowed him to learn how to meet deadlines, multi-task and work effectively with customers.

Howard currently serves as the chapter president and Area 10 vice president. He has participated in the dairy cattle evaluation, dairy foods and soils career development events. He has also attended Helping Youth Maximize Agricultural eXperiences Academy.

In addition to FFA, Howard is the president of National Honor Society and an active volunteer with his local fire department. After graduation, he plans on continuing his training and establishing a career in fire fighting.

The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
