Mount Vernon FFA poultry team places third in state competition

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 22, 2022 – The Mount Vernon FFA Chapter placed third in the poultry evaluation career development event at the 94th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 48 teams in the competition.

The team members include Keaton Grider, Thomas Mckay and Ana Crouch. Grider placed fourth, Mckay placed ninth and Crouch placed 51st out of 182 participants. The Mount Vernon FFA advisors are Steven Prewitt, Jay Shepherd and Makayla Berheim.

The poultry teams evaluate, identify and present their findings on live production hens, ready-to-cook turkeys, processed poultry products, cartons of eggs and broiler parts. In addition, a multiple-choice test and a problem-solving section on poultry management and production are included in the scoring.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
