Vandeven receives Honorary State FFA Degree
COLUMBIA, Mo., April 22, 2022 – The Missouri FFA Association named Margie Vandeven, Foristell, an Honorary State FFA Degree recipient at the 94th Missouri FFA Convention.
Vandeven is currently the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Commissioner of Education and has held this position for the past six years. She recognizes the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as the home to the Missouri FFA Association and its leadership. Through DESE, Vandeven is able to support 353 chapters and 25,626 members statewide.
Vandeven states she never had the esteemed honor of wearing the blue corduroy jacket; however, she has grown to understand and appreciate FFA and its members. As the Commissioner of Education, Vandeven has met with several state FFA officers, attended State FFA Conventions and observed student learning in local classrooms and in the exhibits at the Missouri State Fair.
The Missouri FFA Association recognizes Honorary State FFA Degree recipients for their valuable efforts and contributions to the FFA organization and its members. Those eligible to receive the Honorary FFA Degree include farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of the board of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, business professionals and others who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA.
The Missouri FFA has 25,626 members representing 353 chapters. The national organization has more than 735,000 members representing 8,817 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
