SEDALIA, Mo., May 1, 2021 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Austin Etcheson of the Jasper FFA Chapter as the Area 9 Star in Placement and one of four finalists at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Joe and Penny Etcheson of Jasper. His advisor is Jared Jeffries.

Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as a part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 9 includes 16 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, Mo., sponsors the 16 area Star in Placement awards and the State Star in Placement Award.

Etcheson’s SAE includes his employment at Steel Rain Irrigation. Etcheson started as the only employee for the business. He installs, maintains and repairs center pivot irrigation systems. He now supervises five others and manages a building crew for the company.

Etcheson serves as chapter vice president. He competed in the state horse evaluation and placement, meats evaluation and agronomy career development events. Etcheson received a Group 1 individual rating in the meats evaluation and agronomy CDEs. He was a state finalist in the agricultural mechanics design and fabrication proficiency award area. Etcheson attended Washington Leadership Conference, State FFA Leadership Camp, National FFA Convention & Expo and State FFA convention.

In addition to FFA, Etcheson is captain of the Jasper High School varsity football team, a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and is active in his local church youth group.

After graduating high school, Etcheson plans include attending Crowder College, Neosho, to study agricultural business management. After graduating college, he plans on continuing his employment at Steel Rain Irrigation to gain more experience and further his career.

The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
