Montgomery of Brookfield FFA Chapter named Area 3 Star in Placement
SEDALIA, Mo., May 1, 2021 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Brett Montgomery of the Brookfield FFA Chapter as the Area 3 Star in Placement at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Ryan and Valerie Montgomery of Brookfield. His advisor is Jessica Dobrzenski.
Area Stars in Placement are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as a part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 3 includes 24 chapters in the Northeast District.
MFA Inc., Columbia, Mo., sponsors the 16 area Star in Placement awards and the State Star in Placement Award.
Montgomery’s SAE consists of working for Montgomery Veterinary Clinic, Montgomery Farms, and Russell Construction, and a diversified livestock operation. At Montgomery Veterinary Clinic, Brookfield, he is a veterinary assistant. His duties include holding animals for examinations; preparing animals for surgeries; caring for surgery and boarding animals; and helping with livestock pregnancy checks, vaccinations, and castrations. At Montgomery Farms, Brookfield, he feeds livestock, builds and maintains fencing, and manages pastures. Montgomery worked for Russell Construction building agricultural structures. Montgomery owns a herd of Hereford and crossbred cattle.
Montgomery previously served as chapter treasurer, reporter and parliamentarian. He participated at state in meats evaluation and dairy foods career development events, and in the area FFA knowledge leadership development event. He won the area wildlife management proficiency award. Montgomery was named Chapter Star Greenhand and Chapter Star in Placement. Montgomery attended National FFA Convention & Expo; State FFA Leadership Camp; and the Lead, Educate, Advance, Develop Conference for Chapter Officers.
In addition to FFA, Montgomery is a member of National Honor Society and a middle school science tutor. He participates in varsity golf. Outside of school, he is a member of Brookfield Church of Christ. He also is a member of Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Forever, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, American Hereford Association and Missouri Junior Hereford Association. He volunteers at the Linn County Animal Shelter, Bear Branch Cemetery and Linn County Relay for Life.
After graduating high school, Montgomery’s plans include attending the University of Missouri, Columbia, to study agronomy, and wildlife and natural resources management. Montgomery said he hopes to work for an agricultural company or governmental agency and purchase his own livestock operation.
The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
