SEDALIA, Mo., May 1, 2021 -The Missouri FFA Association recognized Garrett Alan Burger of the California FFA Chapter as the Area 8 Star Farmer at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Jeremy and Alisha Burger of California. His advisors are Adam Bieri, Dale Hodges and Gary Morris.

Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 8 includes 24 chapters in the Central District.

MFA, Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.

Burger’s SAE consists of cattle production and row crops. His SAE started with three cows and 10 acres of row crops. His project now consists of 18 head of cattle, and 120 acres of corn and beans. Burger also assists with his family’s business, JAG Farms, an agricultural seed sales and spraying business. He helps with the family’s 250 acres of crops and 50 head of cattle.

Burger currently serves as area secretary and chapter vice president, and previously served as chapter chaplain. He has won two proficiency awards for his SAE, with one advancing to state.

In addition to FFA, Burger is a member of National Honor Society and DECA. He participates in choir, school musicals, basketball and football. He also is a member of 4-H.

After graduating high school, Burger’s plans include attending Westminster College, Fulton, to study business administration, play football and perform with the Churchill Singers. After college, Burger said he plans on returning home to expand the family farm and business.

The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
