Dohle of Pleasant Hope FFA Chapter named Area 10 Star Farmer
SEDALIA, Mo., May 1, 2021 -The Missouri FFA Association recognized Grant Dohle of the Pleasant Hope FFA Chapter as the Area 10 Star Farmer and one of four finalists at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Dean and Stacy Dohle of Pleasant Hope. His advisors are Jered Brown and Brittany Lawless.
Area Star Farmers are chosen based upon outstanding production agriculture in the student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 10 includes 23 chapters in the Southwest District.
MFA, Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star Farmer awards and the State Star Farmer Award.
Dohle’s SAE consists of raising and showing Jersey dairy cattle. He started with 11 cows and has grown the herd to 22. Dohle feeds calves milk twice a day and provides grain, water, hay and dry bedding. Dohle uses pedigrees for matching sires with cows to improve milk production, strength and dairy character. Dohle shows cattle at local, state and national events. He is responsible for preparing cattle for the show ring. At the Missouri State Fair, Dohle has exhibited five grand champions and three supreme champions. He has exhibited at Southern National Dairy Show, Stillwater, Oklahoma; World Dairy Expo, Madison, Wisconsin and North American Livestock Expo, Louisville, Kentucky. At these events, Dohle has earned champion honors, reserve All-American honors and placed first in intermediate showmanship.
Dohle is chapter president and previously held the offices of co-sentinel, second vice president and parliamentarian. He was on the 2019 state livestock evaluation team which competed at the National FFA Convention & Expo, Indianapolis, Indiana, and received a silver rating. At the 2019 Central National FFA Events, Madison, Wisconsin, Dohle was on the winning dairy judging team, earning a trip to judge at the Royal Highland Dairy Show, Ingliston, Scotland, but it was cancelled due to Covid-19. Dohle also represented Missouri at the 2018 National FFA Convention & Expo dairy cattle handlers contest where he earned a silver rating. He was awarded the area environmental science and natural resources management, and dairy production entrepreneurship proficiency awards. Dohley was recognized as Area Star Farmer, Star Chapter Farmer and Star Greenhand.
In addition to FFA, Dohle is part of the varsity baseball team. In 2018 he was named All-Conference Catcher. In 2019 he earned All-Conference and All-District catching honors. Dohle was a member of his high school bass fishing team and placed third at the 2020 state tournament.
After graduating high school, Dohle this summer will be traveling to Australia and New Zealand on an educational tour of South Pacific agriculture. Dohle’s plans include attending Missouri State University to study marketing. He plans to return to the farm and expand his herd. Further, Dohle said he would like to develop an agritourism business.
The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
