SEDALIA, Mo., May 1, 2021 – The Missouri FFA Association recognized Sera Stanek of the Bolivar FFA Chapter as Area 10 Star in Agriscience at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. Her mother is Cherie Stanek of Bolivar. Her advisors are Ashley Brown and Jason King.

Area Stars in Agriscience are selected based upon outstanding achievement in agriscience as part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 10 includes 23 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agriscience awards and the State Star in Agriscience Award.

Stanek’s SAE consisted of testing cupcake-ingredient substitutes. She tested whether applesauce or Greek yogurt would substitute eggs to produce the best cupcake based on appearance, smell, taste and moistness. She baked cupcakes using eggs, applesauce and Greek yogurt. Stanek did a blind taste test with 20 people. She found using eggs was the highest-ranking cupcake on appearance, smell, taste and moistness.

Stanek served as chapter historian. She participated in agricultural issues forum and FFA knowledge leadership development events; and food science and technology, and floriculture career development events. She was a member of National FFA Convention & Expo, and Missouri FFA Convention Courtesy Corps.

In addition to FFA, Stanek was a member of student council. She participated in soccer and cheerleading.

Stanek currently studies business management at Ozark Technical Community College, Springfield. Her plans are to attend Missouri State University, Springfield, to study agricultural business and horticulture. Stanek said she hopes to own a florist shop.

The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
