Republic FFA poultry team places second in state competition
SEDALIA, Mo., April 30, 2021 – The Republic FFA Chapter placed second in the poultry career development event at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. There were 25 teams in the competition.
The team members include Alondra Ornelas, Deric Herndon, Kyle Blanton and Abbye Chandler. Ornelas placed fourth, Herndon placed sixth, Blanton placed 14th and Chandler placed 26th out of 89 participants. The Republic FFA advisors are David Mareth, Duane Melton and Cody Stewart.
The poultry teams evaluate, identify and present their findings on live production hens, ready-to-cook turkeys, processed poultry products, cartons of eggs and broiler parts. In addition, a multiple-choice test and a problem-solving section on poultry management and production are included in the scoring.
Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.
The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
